If you find some statistics of how many coronary diseases are caused by obesity and lack of exercise, you can start to imagine yourself being in hospital with a heart attack. See your loved ones sitting by your bed and try to feel what that would be like. I really think that that is the key to living healthily. I recently stopped smoking. After many attempts over the years, what really made me do this was that my mother in law was diagnosed with lung cancer. Over the past months I saw how that has affected her of course, but also my wife and my children. I was horrified at the thought that maybe one day my own children would have to be afraid to lose me, just because I thought that smoking made my life better in some way. My negative associations with smoking are that strong now, that I get over any cravings quite easily and that I am not in the least afraid that I wills start again!
Build those strong negative emotions with not living a lean and healthy life. At the same time, you will start to feel better, more energetic and lively. Enjoy that feeling – I mean really, really enjoy it – make it a very strong feeling. It is up to you how you feel, that is a fact, so you can also make feelings more intense. So once you have started to live healthier, intensify the good feeling that comes with it and you will be on your way to wanting more of it!
