Freeagent Go - faint beeping sound, not recognized white led flashing

I had this experience so I wanted to share a few things with others so you might be able to save your data!

Seagate Go
Seagate FreeAgent Go
Data recovery of Seagate Free Agent Go

So tonight Is sat down plugged in my External USB Seagate Go drive.   I heard 3 beeps and then the LED lighting in the rear was lightly flashing.  I have been involved in data recovery at a former job and new if I had to recover this drive (if even possible) I was looking at $300 to $500 dollars so I began considering the value of the data on it.  I began to panic like some of you reading.

So first,
I - plugged and unpluged the USB cable.  I tried Other cables because I knew that these cables can get damaged themselves. One was purchased at a discount store and i thought maybe it was a - second hand one.

2nd, I restarted my computer and hoped it recongnized it. (nope)

3rd I went to the Seagate Website and was shocked at the poor technical support area and how it seemed to take you from one place back to another.

3rd.  I read the customer forums (WHOA) from now on I am always reading customer forums.  I read and read.  I found that many others had similar experienes and freaking out with little option.

A problem to check:
4th - Then I read and read and came accross a little nugget.  One guy said - low power to the drive can cause this type of failure.  So he suggested if someone is using a multi - USB connector - plug it directly into the Computers USB port.  Well in my case I already had that.  Then I tried other USB plugs on the computer no difference..  Then it dawned on me.

Go Flex failure beeping and flashing can be as a result of Eco Mode on your laptopSo I clicked on the ECO mode Icon my laptop and then reconnected the Seagate Go drive back into the laptop.  WHOA! It Worked instantly as before!  It was the lower power all along.

Now if that does not work for you consider these things.
1. rattle the drive as gentle as possible - do you hear any plastic parts moving around?  If so it maybe a equipment failure completely and would need to be recovery.  (note: most local recovery places send it off as what local places has a "clean room". Read about data recovery if you want to understand why I clean room. Its ligit.

2. Power everything off and wait at least 15 minutes - then try again.  Sometimes things hold power.
3. One person suggested if you find a goog computer geek whose use to taking apart computers and/or building them.. (someone may know someone). That you take the drive apart, and using special cables that connect a hard drive to a computer (not USB) they can connect the drive and add seperate power.  It would be my belief this is worth exploring before a clean room. Since there maybe a wiring issue with in the case that would be resolved by direct connecting with factory style cable. (non-geek terms).
4. Finally if you need to do a clean room.  Do several searches.  I do not recall the exact location of the one I found a year or so ago but its in the mid-west.  They were less expensive and the reason was they were the "real clean room".  Many other "clean rooms" are simply resellers sending it off to them.  The best part is you pay shipping to them... Then they try to recover (not always possible), and then show you how much data they can recover through a special web portal before you ever pay!  So do your home work on data recover.   I will also say they indicated they can recover from fire and flood as well as failure.  So data might not be lost.

Changes in the Auto repair shop world

Traditional Auto Repair Shops continue to get competition.  First it was the franchise repair shops, and then the big box retailers, and now its a new alternative called mobile mechanics.

I don't believe the old fashioned automotive shop is dead but it certainly has new new competitor offering full automotive repair services in a new way.  These Automotive repair Shops work from remote automotive repair shops on wheels performing all the same repairs of a traditional shop in a totally new way.  They are dispatched to perform automotive repairs where the vehicle is, rather than taking the vehicle to an automotive repair shop.

Are you one of those people who still enjoy a traditional automotive repair shop or would you prefer a more convient alternative such as a mobile automotive repair shop?
